In 1888, a restaurant owner named Lee Kum Sheung in southern China made a pot of oyster soup and forgot about it until the soup was thickened into a thick sauce. He tried it and found that it tasted irresistibly delicious.
From then on he began to sell it as "oyster sauce". Mr. Lee was the founder of Lee Kum Kee and his story tells how the classic Chinese seasoning, oyster sauce, was invented. With a food tradition that goes back more than 130 years, Lee Kum Kee today makes authentic Chinese sauces and famous condiments and sells them in more than 100 countries around the world.
